THE TEAM

MacG Racing Team Shot

Richard MacGregor – Team Principal

Having had his interest kindled many years ago by Stirling Moss’s first win in a Vanwall, Richard has followed motor sport ever since.  Working as a Designer and Project Manager in the Sports Industry, he has had wide experience of initiating and developing projects for a wide range of applications.

Still an enthusiastic motorcyclist, as well as a driver, he is always interested in anything with an engine and is a keen participant in track days.  Over the years he has owned a wide variety of cars and motorcycles and currently enjoys the superb roads around the Team’s base in North Yorkshire on a Triumph Street Triple.

Jonny MacGregor – Technical Director and Lead Driver

Jonny is an Engineering Manager at GE.  He has been involved in competitive motor sport for 14 years, starting in karts, and is now developing a reputation in cars.  A keen driver and motorcyclist, he has always been very active in sports, having competed at a high level in swimming, rugby and athletics.  He attended Loughborough University, where he obtained a Masters Degree in Automotive Engineering, specialising in car suspension systems, ride and handling.

Jonathan’s technical expertise and years of track driving experience are a great asset in helping to develop the Team’s cars and drivers.  Throughout 2010 he has developed his Lotus Exige for track use and competed with it in the Time Attack series, and raced the Team’s Westfield Aerorace with notable success. He proved extremely competitive in his first year in GT racing in 2011, consistently out performing seasoned GT drivers in his debut year.

Dr Charlotte Edwardson - Nutrition and Fitness Consultant

Dr Charlotte Edwardson is a specialist in physical activity, health and nutrition. She has a BSc in Applied Sports Science and an MSc and PhD in Physical Activity & Health, all from Loughborough University. Recognising the importance of physical and mental preparation for participation in sport, Charlotte ensures that each team member is aware of the fitness and nutrition requirements to ensure they are able to perform to their maximum.

Charlotte has followed motor sport enthusiastically for some years and is particularly interested in Moto GP and Formula One.  She is also a keen participant in sport and has a black belt in kickboxing.

Alicja Sanderson – Hospitality Manager

Alicja, known to everyone as Ala, has an Honours Degree in Engineering and is a qualified Cordon Blue cook.  With many years experience in the catering and hospitality industry, we are delighted that she provides the Team with the all important refreshments during the track events attended by the drivers and support crew.

Ala has embraced motor sport and is an enthusiastic owner of a cherished TVR Cerbera.  She is a keen supporter of the Team and is always ready to provide meals and snacks at any time they are required.  She caters for the varied discerning (and sometimes not so discerning!) tastes of our Team and our guests.

Marvin Epton - Race Engineer

Marvin was first involved with MacG Racing in 2006 when the team raced the Rotax Kart. More recently he has been involved in the build and development of the Ultima GTR for the Britcar British Endurance Championship. His interest in motorsport started at a young age having spent numerous hours at Snetterton race track watching events such as the British Touring Cars and British Superbikes.

His love for motorsport led him to study Automotive Engineering at Loughborough University, where he obtained a Masters Degree. Whilst at University, he specialised in aerodynamics and chassis design. Marvin currently works as a Project Engineer for Lotus Cars. In his spare time, Marvin plays waterpolo, football and cricket. He also enjoys rock climbing and mountain biking.

Tom Fletcher - Race Engineer

Tom’s love of motorsport has grown from a young age when he was upgrading and racing Scalextric cars, through a Masters Degree in Automotive Engineering at Loughborough University, to being part of the Brawn GP team that won the Formula One World Championship. At work, Tom specialises in simulation and control engineering, but at weekends can normally be found getting his hands dirty under his VW Golf. A keen driver himself, and a good eye for data analysis mean that Tom fits well into the role of Driver Liaison.

Tom’s main duty on race weekends is to ensure that the team knows exactly what setup the driver needs to get the best of the car. In addition to this, he provides feedback from the logged data in order to improve both the car and the drivers performance.

Jamie Gomeche - Race Engineer

Having initially achieved a masters degree in mechanical engineering at only 21 years of age, he then went on to become the first in the world to achieve an online honours degree in motorsport engineering with the National Motorsport Academy. Jamie has worked as a race engineer in FIA British F4 and Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup, as well as working as a data engineer in World Series Formula V8 3.5. This has meant he has worked with a huge array of drivers of all ages, most notably working as a data and performance engineer for a 2017 Formula 1 Force India reserve driver.

Jamie was previously Chief Technical Engineer for Stratton Motorsport overseeing the running of all operations, in particular British Formula 3 and British GT, as well as AMOC and endurance racing. However for 2018 Jamie joins Arden international Motorsport as a full time race engineer and returns to Formula Renault Eurocup. Jamie’s experience does not stop at single seater racing, as he has also worked as a race engineer on current prototype GT3 cars as well as ex-Le Mans GTE cars. In addition to this, Jamie has racing experience of his own as a current Rotax Senior kart racer in Scottish MSA events. From this his ability to understand feedback and work alongside drivers as a race engineer is one of his key strengths and helps to achieve constant improvement from all drivers.

Chris Sprason - Race Engineer

Chris joined the team back in 2012 after meeting Jonny at GE. His love for cars and Motorsport started at an early age following his father’s passion/collection of Alfa Romeo’s. He started in Motorsport marshalling for the Lombard RAC Rally and other club events within the UK, which lead him to help build a class winning rally car with his brother, and competing in various races across the country as a Co Driver. This progressed to supporting the electrical and mechanical build of several Group N/WRC Rally Cars for private sponsors.

His love for cars has developed into a personal collection of several cars, ranging from an original Mini Cooper through to an AC Cobra replica he fully built/restored. He is now actively chasing his dream of running his own business (CS Auto Engineering) restoring and recommissioning classic cars as well as building customers kit cars.

Chris brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team, providing electrical and mechanical engineering advice engineering.

Sanyham Threstha - Race Engineer

Sanyham's is a student at Trident College studying Motorsports Engineering and is in his final year at college. He is also the youngest and the newest memeber of the MacG Racing team. Sanyham was first involved with MacG Racing in 2017 and has been involved in the build and development of the Taranis and the RX8 project for the British Endurance Championship.

His love for Motorsports has him led him to attend an online degree in Motorsports specializing in Aerodynamics, Race Strategy and Thermodynamics. Sanyham's main duty on race weekends is to ensure the car is in good working order and is also a pit crew member responsible for tyre changes and refueling.

Josh Tomlinson - Head Race Engineer

Josh joined the team officially in 2010 during MacG's time in the Time Attack and Westfield race series, although was involved many times since 2002 helping out as part of Jonny's karting and track day pit crew. He has since progressed to having a more integral role within the team since its involvement the Britcar and GT Cup series, leading the rest of pit crew during race and development weekends, liaising with Jonny and Richard to plan the car development and race strategies.

Recently he has been heavily involved in the redevelopment of the team's main race car into the 'Taranis' platform, utilising key lessons learnt from racing the Ultima GTR. This has involved many weeks of effort during the 2015 season rebuilding the chassis and bodywork, culminating in a planned program of testing during the 15/16 off season. His practical knowledge and experience has recently been utilised in completing the teams' engine and Albins gearbox rebuilds, together with chassis, suspension and bodywork preparation ready for the new season. Commercially he has been involved with development of the team’s social media profile, parts business and supplier network. This has resulted in him supporting and working on the MacG Racing/Albins stand at the Auto Sport International exhibition since 2014.
